How to connect your Fairphone 1 to a computer

This article explains how to connect your Fairphone 1 to a PC, Apple Mac and Linux computer running Fairphone OS version 1.6 or higher. If you use an older version of Fairphone OS on your Fairphone 1, please update it to the latest version.

In most cases extra software is not required to connect your Fairphone 1 to a computer. The device will immediately be recognized. Once your computer recognizes your Fairphone 1 as an USB storage device, you can transfer files (e.g. music, pictures, contact lists, videos).

How to connect your Fairphone to a PC:

  1. Connect your Fairphone 1 with an USB data cable to the PC
  2. It should automatically connect and show up under My Computer
  3. If it doesn’t connect automatically, open the notification panel on your Fairphone 1
  4. Select USB connection and in there select MTP mode.

How to connect your Fairphone 1 to an Apple Mac:

Before you are able to connect your Fairphone 1 to an Apple Mac, you must install the Android File Transfer software first. You can use this application to view/transfer files between your Apple Mac and the Fairphone 1.

After the installation is done, connect your Fairphone 1 via a USB data cable. The device will show up in a Finder window.

If it doesn’t connect automatically:

  1. Open the notification panel on your Fairphone 1
  2. Select USB connection
  3. Select MTP mode.

Please note

Applications and services like iCal, iTunes and iCloud will not work on the Fairphone 1 because they are made specifically for Apple devices.

How to connect your Fairphone 1 to a Linux computer:

Connecting your Fairphone 1 to a Linux computer is slightly more difficult than connecting it to a PC or Apple Mac device. It should work without any issues.
