Software specifications of Fairphone 1

The software specifications of the Fairphone 1 mention of the OS systems used and the storage layout.

OS system Fairphone 1

The Fairphone 1 runs on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Operating System with added Fairphone-specific features. The latest update is Kola Nut 1.8.7.

By default, the OS on the Fairphone 1 is not the basic Stock Android. We teamed up with the talented people at Kwamecorp to simplify and improve the user experience. They created some special features on top of Android 4.2.

Storage layout of the Fairphone 1

The first edition of the Fairphone 1 contained two different storage partitions. One partition of 1GB for applications and one 13GB sized partition where users could put data like music and documents.

This setup was a standard part of the Android software structure. It was suitable for general use but some users asked for a solution to give them more space for their apps.

With software update Cherry v1.6, first edition Fairphone 1 owners could upgrade their storage to this unified storage solution as well.

Warning: when you upgrade to the unified partition, all personal data on the phone are erased.
So first, make a backup of your data.

We recommend all users to upgrade to this unified partition.
