How to remove the display module from the Fairphone 2

Removing the display module of the Fairphone 2 is quite easy. You can remove it to replace the module, but also to show others how the modular design looks like or to troubleshoot issues with your screen.

In this video you can find easy instructions on how to do this:

When you place a new module back

  1. Make sure you run the latest update, otherwise your display stays black
  2. Make sure you hear or feel a click when pushing the display back in place. You can check visually if the display is aligned with the core module. There should be no split or dent visible.
  3. Next to that, if your new display has yellow protective tape on the lenses, it should be removed before placing the display back.

Sometimes the display can be difficult to remove, in that case you can use the following tips to remove the display module from the phone:

The first option:

  1. Remove the battery from the phone
  2. Slide the two clips to the inside
  3. Put the phone between your two palms with the blue clips pointing to the top of your fingers.
  4. Now press the hands tight together and slide the hand where the display module is to the top (in the direction of the blue clips).

The second option is a bit more tricky, but also effective

  1. Remove the battery from the phone
  2. Slide the two clips to the inside
  3. Put the top of the phone on a corner of something blunt, like wood, in such way only the display module is leaning on it.
  4. Now slide the Core Module down. You can really put force on this.

Done!
