Setup and troubleshoot a Bluetooth connection
The Fairphone 3 runs Bluetooth version 5.0, so you can connect wirelessly with other Bluetooth devices. Make sure that the device uses a protocol that your FP3 supports.
Connect with Bluetooth
To make a Bluetooth connection between your Fairphone 3 and another device:
- Activate Bluetooth on the Fairphone 3
- Swipe the notification bar down with two fingers to open the Quick Settings menu
- Tap on the Bluetooth icon (a rune) to activate Bluetooth
- Pair with another device
- Press and hold the Bluetooth icon to enter the Bluetooth settings
- Tap + Pair new device to add a new device
- Tap on the device that shows in the list that shows below Available devices
- To pair with the device push the button Pair.
- Check Allow access to contacts and call history if you want to want the device to interrupt and notify when a phone call comes in.
Compatible Bluetooth protocols
If you can not connect your Fairphone 3 with a device (such as a car stereo or wireless headphones) via Bluetooth, make sure that the device uses a protocol that your FP3 supports:
- If the protocol is listed, scroll down to troubleshoot the issue
- If the protocol is not listed, it means that the device is not compatible

Troubleshoot a Bluetooth connection
If your FP3 is up to date and the devices are compatible but the issue persists, try the following:
- Remove any paired devices from your FP3:
- Go to Settings → Connected devices → tap on the cogwheel icon next to the device → tap on the button Disconnect.
- Remove any paired devices from your target device (please refer to the device's user manual)
- Go to Settings > System > Advanced > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, Mobile & Bluetooth
- Boot the FP3 in Safe Mode.
- Now try to pair again:
- If rebooting in Safe Mode solves the problem, you might have installed a third-party app that keeps the phone from connecting properly. Find this app and remove it. Worst-case scenario, perform a factory reset.
- If rebooting in Safe Mode does not solve the problem,
- Go to Settings → Connected devices → tap on the cogwheel icon next to the device → tap on the button Forget and try to pair again
- If that does not solve the issue, proceed to step 5.
- If you know someone who owns an FP3, try to pair their phone with the target device.
- If the other FP3(s) connect(s) and yours does not, perform a factory reset and try again. If the phone still does not connect, let me know.
- If the other FP3(s) do(es) not connect, there has to be some incompatibility-related issue between the FP3s and the target device. Please provide us with as much information about the product as you can, and we will let our developers know.
If your FP3 still does not connect after you returned the phone to the factory settings, the only option left is to find an alternative solution, for example:
- Wired headsets instead of Bluetooth ones.
- A wired stereo connection to your multimedia hub/stereo system
- Transfer data via USB cable or Wi-Fi.
