Set a song as your ringtone

If you like to hear your favorite song every time someone calls you, you can set an audio file as your ringtone.

To get that unique ringtone there are two methods: a quick one and a version with more steps.

Quick method

To quickly add a ringtone:

  1. Get the song or recording on your device:
    1. Download the song using your phone
    2. Record a sound recording
    3. Share the file via Bluetooth
    4. Or copy it on your device from your computer with a data cable
  2. Add the file as a ringtone:
    1. Swipe up the All apps bar on your Home screen
    2. Tap the Settings icon
    3. Scroll down to Sound and tap it
    4. Tap Phone ringtone
    5. Scroll down to find + Add ringtone. Tap it
    6. The file manager opens. On top left, tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal bars).
    7. Tap through the folders to where your file is. Depending on how you captured the audio file, this can be Downloads, Bluetooth, Audio or the internal storage of your phone: FP3
      1. If the file manager does not show FP3, in the menu on top right, again tap on the three vertically aligned dots to Show internal storage. Now try again.
    8. When you find it, tap the file
    9. You are now back in the Ringtone menu. Select the audio file that should now show up in the list. It will play once
    10. Press OK at the bottom to confirm your selection.

When someone calls you, you should now hear your favorite sound!

Method with audio file in place

This method takes more steps, but you can place the audio file deliberately in a place of your choice. In this instruction, you place the audio file in the internal storage of your phone.

  1. Get the song or recording on your device:
    1. Download the song using your phone
    2. Record a sound recording
    3. Share the file via Bluetooth
    4. Or copy it on your device from your computer with a data cable
  2. Place the file in the right place:
    1. Swipe up the All apps bar on your Home screen
    2. Tap the Files icon
    3. Search in Downloads, Bluetooth or Audio to find the audio file
    4. Press and hold the file until it is selected: the top bar shows 1 selected
    5. On top right, tap on the three vertically aligned dots to select either Copy to... or Move to...
    6. Tap on the hamburger menu (three horizontal bars) on top left to Copy to... and select FP3. This is the internal storage of your phone
      1. If it does not show FP3, in the menu on top right, again tap on the three vertically aligned dots to Show internal storage. Now try again.
    7. Select Ringtones
    8. Push the blue button Copy at the bottom
  3. Select the file as your ringtone:
    1. Swipe up the All apps bar on your Home screen
    2. Tap the Settings icon
    3. Scroll down to Sound and tap it
    4. Tap Phone ringtone
    5. Select the audio file that should now show up in the list of ringtones. It will play once.
    6. Press OK at the bottom to confirm your selection.

When someone calls you, you should now hear your favorite sound!
