FP3(+). Network connectivity
The short answer is: yes, but it’s not guaranteed to work everywhere in the world
Fairphone 3/Fairphone 3+ (FP3/FP3+) is optimized for European cellular and 4G/LTE networks. In certain locations outside of Europe, you will also get 4G
FP3/FP3+ have global coverage for 2G. It works everywhere, all the time, anytime. For 3G and 4G you will get at least one band supported anywhere in the world. The capabilities of the FP3/FP3+ outside Europe depend on your cellular network. By default, you will have a UMTS/HSPA connection with the FP3/FP3+ anywhere in the world. This means that it is likely that you will either have a 4G, 3G connection. In some places, it will be the worst-case scenario: a 2G connection. It is possible to have both SIM cards on 4G, or one 3G and the other 4G, but only one of them can be used for Data connection.
Some providers restrict international SIM card use - especially on pre-paid plans. Check with your provider what the terms and conditions are for international use.
United States & Canada
When it comes to the United States and Canada, 4G(LTE) will not always work (see the 4G / LTE bands listed below to verify with your provider). But all other network interfaces will - like 3G data connection, as fast as the networks go. This means that you will have a well-functioning internet connection. Although you won’t be able to access the latest network potential
Colombia, Ecuador & Chile
It is not possible to register the FP3/FP3+ in Colombia, Ecuador, or Chile (the so-called homologar procedure). The phone is not registered in the USA and thus doesn't have the required FCC registration code that would allow this. The procedure exists to prevent anonymous usage of mobile devices and is focused on devices designed for the North and South American markets.
Registration is mandatory in these countries. This means that you can not use the device with a SIM card after the period has ended that each country has set (usually 1 month). You can still use the device with WiFi - or Bluetooth connection.
Rest of the world
How well the phone works outside of Europe depends on local networks as well as the operator you use. This third party tool might help you out for FP2 (data for FP3/FP3+ are not available yet).
In some countries, IMEI registration is mandatory for using the device longer than a certain period (usually 1 month). Unfortunately, this is not possible for countries that we do not ship to. You can still use the device with WiFi- or Bluetooth connection.
