Fairphone 3(+): IMEI & Serial Numbers of the Phone and its Modules

To help you we might need the IMEI number of your device or the serial numbers of the separate modules. Here's how you can find them.

Introduction

Each Fairphone 3(+) module is identified by a UID (unique identifier) composed of a combination of letters and numbers. These unique identifiers allow us to track the modules down to the day they have been manufactured.

Note that the following letters are not used: 'i', 'o', 'u', and 'y'. This prevents the reader to misread the digits '0' and '1'.

The modules

To remove the modules, you can follow the instructions as mentioned in our support article Replace a Fairphone module.

Full phone or Core Module

There are two unique identifiers of your Fairphone 3, and more specifically of the Core Module. One is the serial number, the other one is IMEI 1.

Serial number

Find the (12 characters) serial number of your device via the software: go to SettingsAbout phoneModel & HardwareSerial number: XXXX XXXX XXXX

IMEI 1 (and IMEI 2)

Each SIM slot has an IMEI assigned for identification. As your device is dual-SIM, it has two SIM-slots and therefore two IMEI numbers. The device is identified by the IMEI 1. The IMEI  number is composed of 15 digits (there are no letters), and starts with 35: e.g. 357801234567890.
You can find the IMEI 1:

  • Via the phone itself (see Working and Non-working phone).
  • Printed on the sticker placed on the underside of the original shipping box.
  • On your invoice or delivery note.

Working phone

The quickest way to find the IMEI1 of a working phone is the following:

  1. Go to SettingsAbout phone → scroll down to IMEI (SIM slot 1)
    1. IMEI 1 states the UID of SIM slot 1.
    2. IMEI 2 states the UID of SIM slot 2.

  2. Take out the battery module.
  3. The white sticker with the IMEI1 printed on it in black - accompanied by a barcode - is located on the side of the battery housing of the Core Module.
