Setup and troubleshoot a Bluetooth connection on FP3/FP3+

 

Fairphone 3/Fairphone 3+(FP3/FP3+) runs Bluetooth version 5.0, so you can connect wirelessly with other Bluetooth devices

 

Connect with Bluetooth

To make a Bluetooth connection between your Fairphone 3 and another device:

  1. Activate Bluetooth on the FP3/FP3+
    1. Swipe the notification bar down with two fingers to open the Quick Settings menu
    2. Tap on the Bluetooth icon to activate the Bluetooth
  2. Pair with another device
    1. Press and hold the Bluetooth icon to enter the Bluetooth settings
    2. Tap + Pair new device to add a new device
    3. Tap on the device that shows in the list that shows below Available devices
    4. To pair with the device push the button Pair.
      1. Check to Allow access to contacts and call history if you want to want the device to interrupt and notify when a phone call comes in

 

Compatible Bluetooth protocols

If you can not connect your Fairphone 3 with a device (such as a car stereo or wireless headphones) via Bluetooth, make sure the device uses a protocol supported by FP3/FP3+

  • If the protocol is listed, scroll down to troubleshoot the issue
  • If the protocol is not listed, it means that the device is not compatible

Here's a list of the Bluetooth protocols supported by FP3/FP3+:

  • Serial Port Profile (SPP) 1.2.3
  • SIM Access Profile (SAP) 1.1.1.1
  • Personal Area Network Profile (PAN) 1.0.10
  • Message Access Profile (MAP) 1.4.1
  • A/V Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) 1.6.2
  • Human Interface Device Profile (HID) 1.0.14
  • Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP) 1.2.3
  • Headset Profile (HSP) 1.2.10
  • Dial-Up Networking Profile (DUN) 1.2.8
  • Hands-Free Profile (HFP) 1.7.2
  • Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) 1.3.2

Troubleshoot a Bluetooth connection

If your FP3/FP3+ is up to date and the devices are compatible but the issue persists, try the following:

  1. Remove any paired devices from your FP3:
    1. Go to Settings → Connected devices → tap on each device → tap on the button Forget
  2. Remove any paired devices from your target device (please refer to the device's user manual)
  3. Boot the FP3 in Safe Mode
  4. Now try to pair again:
    1. If rebooting in Safe Mode solves the issue, a third-party app might keep the phone from connecting properly.
      1. `Reboot your phone normally
      2. Uninstall your apps, one at a time, until you find it the one causing the malfunctioning 
    2. If rebooting in Safe Mode does not solve the problem
      1. Go to Settings → System → Advanced → Reset options → Reset Wi-Fi, Mobile & Bluetooth
      2. Tap on RESET SETTINGS and try to pair again
      3. If that does not solve the issue, proceed to the next step
  5. If you have access to another FP3/FP3+, try to pair it with the target device.
    1. If the other FP3/FP3+ connects while yours does not, make a backup and perform a factory reset and try again. If the phone still does not connect, let me know
    2. If the other FP3/FP3+ does not connect, there probably is some compatibility issue. Please, provide us with information about the product (brand, model, version), and we will report it to our developers know

 

If your FP3/FP3+ still does not connect after you returned the phone to the factory settings, the only option left is to find an alternative solution, for example:
- Wired headsets instead of Bluetooth ones
- A wired stereo connection to your multimedia hub/stereo system
- Transfer data via USB cable or Wi-Fi
