FP3/FP3+ issues with calls

 

Recently some Fairphone 3/ Fairphone 3+ (FP3/FP3+) customers have experienced issues with phone calls on some Network Operators, in particular after the Android 10 software update. You can read more about it in this blog post.

We are working hard to find the root cause of this problem. While our investigation is still ongoing, there are some things that you can do, which might solve the issue.

 

Update your Fairphone

To exclude a software issue always make your FP3/FP3+ is running on the latest software update.

 

If the update is not yet available for your network operator (or doesn't solve the issue), please, disable Enhanced 4G LTE and Wi-Fi calling.

The FP3/FP3+ is technically capable of using VoLTE and VoWiFi technologies but we are still waiting to complete the partnerships with the various phone carriers. That is why we strongly advise you to disable them for the time being, as they might be causing incompatibilities with your network operator. We will enable the service(s) with a future software update once it is available for your network operator.

 

Disable Enhanced 4G LTE

1. Go to Settings > Network & internet > Mobile network > Advanced 
2. Click and disable the option "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode"

If the option "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode" is not available in your Fairphone, you can try selecting "Preferred network type" and then choosing "2G/3G auto". After the next software update, we suggest you switch back to the option "2G/3G/4G auto".

 

Disable Wi-Fi calling (VoWi-Fi, Voice over Wi-Fi)

Additionally, if the issue is still not solved, you might also need to disable Wi-Fi Calling (this service is not enabled for all network providers, so it might happen that it doesn't show on your device).

1. Open the Phone app (the app you use to make phone calls)
2. Tap on the More options icon (three vertical dots icon in the top right corner) then tap on Calling accounts 
3. Select the SIM card you are using
4. Click on Wi-Fi Calling and disable it
