FP4. Global Network Coverage

Europe

Fairphone 4 5G (FP4) is optimized for European cellular networks and supports Standard 5G technology (also called Sub-6GHz or Everyday 5G).
This technology increases the number of available bands that a device can use to transfer data to the network. Latency is also expected to be improved with 5G when compared to 4G LTE.

Fairphone 4 has global coverage for 2G. It works everywhere, all the time, anytime.

For 3G and 4G you will get at least one band supported anywhere in the world. The capabilities of the Fairphone 4 outside Europe depends on your cellular network. By default, you will have a UMTS/HSPA connection with the Fairphone 4 anywhere in the world. This means that it is likely that you will either have a 4G or 3G connection. In some places, it will be the worst-case scenario: a 2G connection. It is possible to have both SIM cards on 4G, or one 3G and the other 4G, but only one of them can be used for Data connection.

Rest of the world

Fairphone 4 5G will work in a lot of countries. However, we cannot guarantee that it will work everywhere in the world.

How well the phone works outside of Europe depends on local networks as well as the operator you use.

Network coverage across the world is constantly upgrading. We suggest checking the section Network specifications here below to find the list of supported bands so that you can verify with your network provider before traveling.

In some countries, IMEI registration is mandatory for using the device longer than a certain period (usually 1 month). Unfortunately, this (homologar) registration is not possible for countries that we do not ship to. You can still use the device with WiFi- or Bluetooth connection.

Colombia, Ecuador, Turkey & Chile

It is not possible to register the Fairphone 4 in Colombia, Ecuador, Turkey or Chile (the so-called homologar procedure). The phone is not registered in the USA and thus doesn't have the required FCC registration code that would allow this. The procedure exists to prevent anonymous usage of mobile devices and is focused on devices designed for the North and South American markets.

Registration is mandatory in these countries and some others too. This means that you can not use the device with a SIM card after the period has ended that each country has set (usually 1 month). You can still use the device with WiFi - or Bluetooth connection.
