FP4. Troubleshoot a Bluetooth connection

 

If you are having issues using the Bluetooth on your Fairphone 4 5G (FP4), please make sure to read the article FP4. Connect to Bluetooth.

If you are still having issues after going through the article, please proceed with the next steps.

 

1. Check compatibility with Bluetooth protocols

If you can not connect your Fairphone 4 with a device (such as a car stereo or wireless headphones) via Bluetooth, make sure the device uses a protocol supported by Fairphone 4.
Here's the list of the supported Bluetooth protocols:

  • Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)
  • Health Device Profile (HDP)
  • Hands-Free Profile (HFP)
  • Headset Profile (HSP)
  • Human Interface Device Profile (HID)
  • Object Push Profile (OPP)
  • Personal Area Networking Profile (PAN)
  • Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP)
  • Generic Attribute Profile (GATT)
  • File Transfer Profile (FTP)
  • SIM Access Profile (SAP)

- IMPORTANT -

  • If the protocol is not listed, it means that the device is not compatible.

 

2. Troubleshooting Bluetooth issues

If the protocol is listed, and your Fairphone is up to date, but the issue persists, try the following:

  1. Remove any paired devices from your Fairphone:
    1. Go to Settings → Connected devices → See all → tap on the Cogwheel icon right of each device → tap on the button Forget.
  2. Remove any paired devices from your target device (please refer to the device's user manual)
  3. Boot the Fairphone in Safe Mode
  4. Now try to pair again:
    1. A third-party app might keep the phone from connecting properly if rebooting in Safe Mode solves the issue.
      1. `Reboot your phone normally.
      2. Uninstall your apps, one at a time, until you find it the one causing the malfunctioning 
    2. If rebooting in Safe Mode does not solve the problem
      1. Go to Settings → System → Advanced → Reset options → Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth
      2. Tap on RESET SETTINGS on the bottom and try to pair again.

 

If, after all this, your Fairphone 4 still does not connect and have access to another Fairphone 4, try to pair it with the target device:

  1. If the other Fairphone 4 connects while yours does not, make a backup, perform a factory reset, and try again. If the phone still does not connect, let us know.
  2. If the other Fairphone 4 does not connect, there probably is some compatibility issue. Please, provide us with information about the product (brand, model, version), and we will report it to our developers.

In the meantime, there are still some alternative options:
- Used a wired headset instead of Bluetooth ones
- Connect to your multimedia hub/stereo system via stereo wires
- Transfer data via USB cable or Wi-Fi
