Troubleshoot a Hotspot connection

If you are having issues using the Hotspot on your Fairphone, make sure to read the article Set up a Hotspot. There you'll find instructions on how to set up a Hotspot on your Fairphone.

If you are still having issues after going through the article, proceed with the next steps.

Update

Make sure that your phone and the device you're trying to connect are up to date.

On your Fairphone, if you are not running the latest software, or you are not sure, update your Fairphone to the latest Fairphone OS.

For the other device, check the manufacturer's website or contact their customer support.

No connection to the Hotspot at all?

Hotspot settings

Check the Hotspot settings.

  1. Did you use the correct name and password on the device you're connecting to the Hotspot?
  2. Is the security (encryption protocol) compatible with the device you're connecting?
  3. Check the devices supported AP band - the Fairphone Hotspot can provide connection both via 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

Connected, but no Internet?

  1. Does your Fairphone have access to the Internet? Is your Mobile data working?
  2. Reset you APN settings. To do that:
    1. Go to Settings -> Network & Internet.
    2. Select your Mobile Network.
    3. Tap on Advanced (only on Android 10 and 11).
    4. Scroll down all the way and tap on Access Point Names.
    5. Tap on the three dots in the top right corner and tap on Reset to default.
    6. Test again.
If this didn't help, you can also check with your operator whether you need to manually set your APN settings.
  3. Reboot your Fairphone in Safe Mode and test again. If that helps, an app you've installed might be causing the issue.
