Fairphone Audio Devices: Repair Price list and FAQ

This article covers a selection of repair costs for our Audio devices. There is also an FAQ on the general repair process. The prices listed below apply to repairs performed by our Service Center that are not covered by our warranty.

Note: If your repair is covered by the manufacturing warranty, all costs are covered by us.

Understanding Repair Costs

Our repair center is located within the European Union; therefore, all prices are listed in Euro (€). We aim to be fully transparent about the costs involved in a repair, which include:

  • Spare parts and materials

  • Handling fees

  • Shipping costs

Please note: This price list is not exhaustive. Your specific quote may include items not listed here.

Diagnosis and Quotes

The exact price of your repair is determined by a technical diagnosis performed upon receipt of your device.

If our technicians determine that the issue is not covered by warranty, we will send you a quote. You will then have three options:

  1. Proceed with the repair: Accept the quote by paying the total costs (repair + shipping).

  2. Return without repair: Pay only the shipping costs to have your device returned to you in its current condition.

  3. Recycle the device: We will recycle the device for you free of charge.

    • Important: This is the default option if you do not reply to the quote or notify our team within the specified timeframe.

Warranty on Repairs

  • 3-Month Repair Warranty: All paid repairs come with a 3-month warranty covering the specific issue that was fixed.

  • Original Warranty: Your Fairbuds product comes with a standard 24-month warranty.

  • No Extension: Executing a repair (even with a new spare part) does not extend the original 24-month warranty of the device.

FAQ

 

Starting a Repair

How can I start a repair via you? 

You can head to our Repairs page. Here you can start diagnosing your issue and if through the tests, the issue is clear you will be able to send your device for repair through our self service portal.

For more complicated or uncertain issues a ticket may be created with our Customer Support team to assist you further.

  • Important: Do not send your device without an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) or directly to our offices. We cannot accept parcels without an RMA, and shipments sent this way are not insured. Our offices lack the equipment and logistics to perform repairs, and they are located in a different country than our Service Center. Unsolicited parcels will be returned to you.

 

Can you provide me with a substitute device while mine is being repaired? 

We do not provide a substitute device service. We recommend using a spare device from friends, family, or colleagues during the repair period.


 

Warranty & Costs

Will my repair be in or out of warranty? 

A technician will make the final diagnosis upon arrival at our Service Center. Generally, a repair is out of warranty if:

  • The product is older than 2 years (depending on local manufacturing warranty limits).

  • There is user damage (which voids the manufacturing warranty for the entire product).

If the repair is not covered by warranty, you will receive a quote. You can:

  1. Accept: Pay the quote to proceed with the repair.

  2. Refuse (Return): Have the product shipped back unrepaired (requires payment for shipping, diagnosis, and handling).

  3. Refuse (Recycle): Abandon the product, and we will recycle it for free.

 

Can I make a warranty claim if I bought my device second-hand? 

Yes, if you can provide a proof of purchase and:

  • The original purchase was less than 2 years ago and there is no user damage.

  • The seller provides the proof of purchase and your name so we can register it in our system.

  • The active warranty is linked to the Serial Number of the original purchase.

 

Only a small part was damaged, so why is my repair so expensive? 

Regardless of the part's cost, total service fees primarily reflect the specialised labor required to complete a professional repair and testing process.


 

Self-Repair & Support

Isn’t it cheaper if I order spare parts and repair it myself? 

Our modular architecture is designed for out-of-warranty repairs (e.g., older than 2 years or accidental damage). If you are confident in your repair skills, buying parts directly can save you money.

  • Note: We cannot reimburse spare part purchases if you intended to claim manufacturing warranty. For warranty claims, the diagnosis must be performed by our technicians.

  • If you need help, you can also reach out to a Fairphone Angel—a community volunteer in your area.

 

Where do I find your repair guide? 

Replacement tutorials and instructions are available in our Troubleshooting Support Article and on our YouTube channel. We advise DIY repairs only for out-of-warranty issues. If you are unsure if the issue is a manufacturing defect, contact Customer Support before buying parts.


 

The Service Process

Can you give me an overview of the process from start to finish?

  1. Head to our repair page: We will provide instructions for a pre-diagnosis.

  2. Setup: If a repair is needed, we will confirm your details and create a request.

  3. Shipping: You will receive an RMA number, shipping label, and instructions.

  4. Diagnosis: Technicians inspect the device at the Service Center.

  5. Resolution: 

    • In-Warranty: Repaired and returned automatically.

    • Out-of-Warranty: You receive a quote. Repairs begin after payment. If you don't respond within a month, the device is considered abandoned and will be recycled.

  6. Software & Data: We will update the software to the latest version and delete all data on the device.

  7. Testing & Return: Final testing is performed, and your device is shipped back to you.
