Set up face and fingerprint unlock
Face and fingerprint unlock allows you to unlock your Fairphone and some apps without having to enter your screen lock.
ⓘ Some of these steps only work if your Fairphone has Android 13 or above. Find out How to check and update your software version.
How to find the fingerprint sensor
To set up fingerprint unlock, your Fairphone must have a fingerprint sensor (Fairphone 3 and later). You can find the fingerprint sensor:
- Fairphone 4 and later: The fingerprint sensor is in the power button.
- Fairphone 3(+): The fingerprint sensor is on the back of the phone.
How to set up fingerprint unlock
To set up fingerprint unlock:
Note: Biometric data, like your fingerprint data, is stored securely and never leaves your Fairphone.
- On your Fairphone, go to Settings → Security & privacy → Device unlock → Face & Fingerprint Unlock.
- Confirm your pattern, PIN or password. If you don't already have one, you'll be asked to set up a screen lock with protection.
- Tap Fingerprint and follow the setup process.
Tip: You can add up to 5 fingerprints on your Fairphone.
How to set up face unlock
If you have a Fairphone 5 or later, you can also unlock it with your face. This may not work if you are wearing a mask or if you are in a dark area.
Note: Biometric data, like your face data, is stored securely and never leaves your Fairphone.
- On your Fairphone, go to Settings → Security & privacy → Device unlock → Face & Fingerprint Unlock.
- Confirm your pattern, PIN or password. If you don't already have one, you'll be asked to set up a screen lock with protection.
- Tap Face Unlock and follow the setup process.
