Set up face and fingerprint unlock
Important
- These steps only work if your Fairphone has Android 13 or above. Learn how to Check and update your software version.
- Biometric data, like your face and fingerprint data, is stored securely and never leaves your Fairphone.
Face and fingerprint unlock allows you to unlock your Fairphone and some apps without having to enter your screen lock.
Find the fingerprint sensor
To set up fingerprint unlock, your Fairphone must have a fingerprint sensor (Fairphone 3 and above). Find the fingerprint sensor:
- Fairphone 4 and above: The fingerprint sensor is in the power button.
- Fairphone 3(+): The fingerprint sensor is on the back of the phone.
Add a fingerprint
You can add up to 5 fingerprints on your Fairphone.
Start with a quick video introduction:
- Go to Settings → Security (& privacy).
On Android 14, tap Device Unlock. - Tap Fingerprint (Face and Fingerprint Unlock on Fairphone 5).
If you don't already have one, you'll be asked to add a Screen lock with protection. - Follow the setup process.
Add face data
If you have a Fairphone 5, you can also unlock your Fairphone with your face. This may not work if you are wearing a mask or if you are in a dark area.
- Go to Settings → Security & privacy → Device Unlock.
- Tap Face & Fingerprint Unlock → Face Unlock.
- Follow the setup process.
