Quickly extend your battery life

Battery Saver: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Saver and tap Use Battery Saver. This turns on dark theme, limits background activity, and reduces power usage.

Airplane mode: Go to Settings > Network and internet and toggle on Airplane mode to turn off Wi-Fi, mobile data, and Bluetooth when you do not need connections.

Optimize your software and settings

  • Update your software: Keep your Fairphone updated to the latest software version to maintain optimal energy efficiency.
  • Check battery usage: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery usage to see how apps use your power. Tap an app name and select Optimized for background usage.
  • Inspect your SIM card: Ensure your SIM card is undamaged and less than two years old. Older SIM cards can cause extra battery drain.
  • Turn on dark theme: On Fairphone 5 or later, go to Settings > Display and toggle on Dark theme to save power on the OLED screen.
  • Adjust display settings:
    • Swipe down twice from the top of the screen and drag the brightness slider left, or go to Settings > Display and turn on Adaptive brightness.
    • Go to Settings > Display > Screen timeout and set the duration to 30 seconds or less.
    • Use a static picture instead of a live wallpaper.
  • Manage network connections: Connect to Wi-Fi instead of mobile data whenever possible, turn off Bluetooth when unused, and review location access under Settings > Location.

Long-term care and safety

  • Maintain healthy charge levels: Keep your battery charged between 20% and 80%. Avoid leaving the battery at 100% or letting it drain to 0% regularly.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures: Keep your phone away from direct sunlight, radiators, and freezing conditions. In freezing weather, keep your phone in an inside pocket.
  • Store safely long-term: If storing your phone for extended periods, keep the battery at room temperature with at least 50% charge.
  • Replace degraded batteries: If your battery is more than two years old or fails to hold a charge, you can purchase a replacement from our online shop.
  • Check for a swollen battery: Remove your battery, place it on a smooth flat surface, and spin it. If it spins more than two full rotations, it may be swollen. Do not charge a swollen battery. Remove it from the phone immediately and dispose of it at a local chemical recycling point.
