How to insert a microSD card on your Fairphone
Inserting a microSD card allows you to expand your Fairphone storage capacity. Use this guide to select the right card for your device model and learn how to safely insert or remove it.
Inserting or removing a microSD card can permanently erase your files. Always back up your data before starting. Never force a microSD card into any slot or tray. Forcing a card can cause damage and void your Fairphone warranty.
How to insert or remove a microSD card on the Fairphone (Gen. 6)
If your microSD card is formatted as internal storage, move your photos, apps, and files back to the phone internal memory before taking out the card.
- Locate the SIM card removal tool in your Getting Started Kit. If you do not have the tool, a toothpick or safety pin will work.
- Push the tool firmly into the small hole on the bottom edge of your phone until the tray pops out with a click.
- To insert a card: Place the microSD card into the tray with the gold contacts facing upward, matching the notched corner. Press down firmly until it snaps into place.
- To remove a card: Hold the tray over a flat surface and gently lift the card out. If the card is hard to remove, use your tool to gently push through the small holes on the back of the tray.
- Slide the tray back into your phone until it clicks shut.
How to insert or remove a microSD card on Fairphone 5, Fairphone 4, and Fairphone 3(+)
- Turn off your phone by pressing and holding the Power button.
- Remove the back cover and take out the battery.
- Locate the MicroSD icon inside the battery compartment.
- To insert a card: Align the card to match the icon, paying attention to the cut corners. Push the microSD card slowly into the slot until it clicks into place.
- To remove a card: Push the card gently into the microSD slot until you hear a click, then release it to take out the card.
- Reinsert the battery and click the back cover into place.
- Press and hold the Power button to turn on your phone.
