Fairphone 5: IMEI and Serial Numbers of the Phone and the Display
Every Fairphone 5, specifically the core module, is defined by two unique identifiers:
- The IMEI 1 and
- the Serial number.
What is an IMEI 1?
The device is identified by the IMEI 1. The IMEI number is composed of 15 numbers (no letters!) and starts with "35............" i.e., "35521450024888".
Fairphone 5 supports two SIM cards. Each SIM space has been assigned an IMEI for identification, and therefore it has two IMEI numbers, known as IMEI 1 and IMEI 2.
What is a serial number?
The parts are identified by a serial number. Serial numbers are composed of letters and numbers.
These serial numbers allow us to track the spare parts to the day they have been manufactured!
The core of the phone itself is considered a part, and this will have a serial number.
Interesting fact: The following letters are never used: 'i', 'o', 'u', and 'y'.
This prevents misreading the digits '0' and '1'!
Where can I find them?
IMEI
The important identification number for identifying the device is the IMEI 1.
You can find the IMEI 1:
- Via the phone software (see Working phone).
- Printed on a sticker placed on the original shipping box.
- Printed on a sticker placed in the phone, visible when you remove the battery (see Non-working phone).
- On your invoice (reseller) or delivery note (Fairphone online shop).
Here, you will find two videos on finding the IMEI in the Fairphone 5, and Fairphone 5 with /e/ OS, and we typed out the instructions below.
Working phone
The quickest way to find the IMEI1 of a working phone is the following: dial *#06#* in the Phone app, as you would dial a phone number.
Alternatively, go to Settings → About phone → scroll down to IMEI (SIM slot 1).
Non-working phone
If the display stays black or the phone doesn't work anymore, you can look inside the phone instead.
- Take off the battery cover.
- Take out the battery module.
- The white sticker with the IMEI1 is on the left side of the battery housing, under the camera.
Serial number
To find the 8-symbol core module serial number, dial *#06#* in the Phone app, as you would dial a phone number.
Alternatively, go to Settings → About phone → scroll down to Model → Serial number.
Display Module
The unique identifier of the Display Module is located on the back of the module, next to a QR-code. The unique identifier always starts with a D.
To remove the Display Module of your device, consult our support article on replacing a spare part.
