  • You can now successfully swap the Back and Recents buttons to match your preference.
  • Optimized background process management for smoother multitasking.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented dismissing apps from the Recents screen while the keyboard was active.
  • Fixed a delay in touch input that occasionally occurred after the device had been locked for an extended period.
📸 Camera & Multimedia
  • Fixed photos occasionally not getting saved after being captured.
  • Fixed noise in video recordings captured in quiet environments.
  • Fixed an issue where audio playback on bluetooth device remained muted following the completion of a phone call.

Changes:

The Fairphone (Gen. 6) is receiving the newest Android 16 update. This update brings a set of new features and small quality of life improvements:

  • Everyday Use & Notifications
    Two new features are introduced to structure the notifications on your home screen. Bundled notifications groups notifications from the same app to avoid clutter. Notification cooldown limits the sound made by succeeding notifications. Other small changes include a new shortcut for wallet on your homescreen, measurement system customization and new emojis!
  • Accessibility changes
    A small change included to improve accessibility is the replacement of high-contrast text with outlined text. This improves readability for users who need a stronger visual contrast.
  • Security changes
    Android 16 brings some security improvements, one of them is specifically targeted at spam calls. To protect users from potential scams, installing malicious software via sideloading or granting sensitive permissions is blocked during phone calls.

Software support roadmap

The Fairphone 6 was launched in 2025 with Android 15. Our software support roadmap includes:

  • At least 7 Android version upgrades.
  • At least eight years of security updates (as always, we try to achieve more).
  • Monthly security updates for about 3 years, and then we will switch to bi-monthly security updates from June 2028 until the end of software support in June 2033.
