How adaptive brightness works

Your phone uses light sensors to measure surrounding light levels. The display brightens in well-lit environments and dims in dark settings to reduce eye strain and conserve battery life.

Your phone also learns from your habits. Every time you manually adjust the brightness slider, your phone saves the surrounding light level along with your selected setting. Over time, your phone uses these saved preferences to automatically fine-tune screen brightness to your liking.

Sudden lighting changes might cause a short delay in automatic screen adjustments while your phone learns your preferred brightness level for the new environment.

How to troubleshoot adaptive brightness

If your screen display is too dark or too bright, use these quick steps to reset or manage the feature:

• Give the phone time to learn: Make manual adjustments over a few days. The system requires several adjustments to adapt to your preferences across different lighting conditions.
• Reset saved preferences: Go to Settings > Display and tap Adaptive brightness off and on again. Turning the setting off and back on clears saved light preferences so your phone can start learning fresh.
• Adjust settings manually anytime: You can manually move the screen brightness slider in your Quick Settings panel at any time without turning off adaptive brightness.
