Turn your phone on and off
Getting started with your Fairphone is simple, and knowing how to power it on and off is fundamental. This section will guide you through the basic steps of turning your device on and off, as well as show you how to customize the power button's functionality to better suit your preferences.

Turn your phone on
To turn on your Fairphone:
- Press and hold the Power button until the display lights up.
Turn your phone off
To turn off your Fairphone:
- Press the Power button to turn on the screen.
- Press the Power and Volume up buttons at the same time.
(Or, if your device settings allow, press and hold the Power button.) - On your screen, tap Power off.
Change what happens when you press and hold the power button
On newer Fairphone and Android versions, pressing and holding the Power button is often set to trigger your digital assistant by default.
To change what happens when you press and hold the power button:
- Go to Settings → System → Gestures.
- Tap Press & hold power button.
- You can choose from:
- Power menu
- Digital assistant
