Making calls, sending messages, voicemail, and email setup

One of the core functions of any smartphone is communication, and your Fairphone is designed to keep you connected with ease. Whether you need to make a quick call, send a text message to a friend, manage your emails on the go, or check your voice messages, your Fairphone has you covered. This section will walk you through the essential steps for staying in touch, ensuring you can communicate effectively and efficiently.

Making and receiving phone calls

You can make calls using the Phone app:

  1. On your phone, swipe up from the Home screen to see All Apps.
  2. Look for Phone and tap to open it:
    • To call a contact, tap Contacts.
    • To enter a number, tap the Dialpad.
    • To call a number you recently called, tap Recent.

When you receive a phone call, the caller's number or contact name will show on the screen.

  • To answer an incoming call:
    • If your phone is locked, swipe the phone icon up.
    • If your phone is unlocked, tap Answer.
  • To decline an incoming call:
    • If your phone is locked, swipe the phone icon down.
    • If your phone is unlocked, tap Decline.

 


Setting up your voicemail

You can set up your voicemail to ensure you receive voice messages when you can't answer a call. The exact voicemail number depends on your mobile network provider.

Note: Setting up your personal voicemail greeting or message depends entirely on your mobile network provider. Please refer to your provider's specific instructions or website for a guide on how to record and change your voicemail message.
  1. On your phone, swipe up from the Home screen to see All Apps.

  2. Look for Phone and tap to open it.

  3. Tap the Dialpad, then press and hold the number 1.

  4. If prompted, enter the voicemail routing number provided by your network provider.

To add or edit your voicemail number manually:

  1. Open the Phone app and tap the three-dot menu in the top letf corner.

  2. Tap Settings, then Voicemail.

  3. Tap Advanced Settings, then Setup.

Sending and receiving text messages (SMS)

You can send and receive text messages using the Messages app:

  1. On your phone, swipe up from the Home screen to see All Apps.
  2. Look for Messages and tap to open it:
    • To start a new conversation, tap Start chat and type a name, phone number or email.
    • Or, tap an ongoing conversation.

 


Setting up your email

Gmail is the default email app on Android.

If you have a Google account, you can send and receive emails using Gmail:

  1. On your phone, swipe up from the Home screen to see All Apps.
  2. Look for Gmail and tap to open it.
  3. Follow the setup process.

You can also add a non-Gmail account to the Gmail app:

  1. On your phone, open the Gmail app.
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Add another account and choose the type of account you want to add.
  4. Follow the setup process.
