What are Fairphone's Black Friday promotions?

From Monday 17 November at 11.00 until Monday 1 December at 23.59:

1. Black Friday Protective Bundle. A free protective case and a free screen protector with each new Fairphone device purchase.
2. Black Friday Audio Discount. A 35% discount on Fairbuds XL and Fairbuds. 
3. Black Friday Longevity Discount. A 20% discount on spare parts and accessories.

Why is Fairphone doing Black Friday? Is it not against your philosophy?

Not at all. Our mission continues to be to build sustainable tech products that last. At Fairphone, we have always been (and still are) against wasteful overconsumption. We truly believe that repair is always better than replace, and design our products to be modular and long-lasting for precisely that reason. Longer lasting products equals less e-waste.

At the same time, it makes perfect sense that people want to be budget-conscious and save a bit of money if they can, especially when making big-ticket purchases. And Black Friday has become that moment for a lot of people, regardless of whether we participate. We have always approached the electronics industry and the change we want to bring from a realistic point of view. Engaging over boycotting, diving in over playing it safe. So, instead of ignoring Black Friday, we want to use this opportunity to encourage people to choose fair and shop responsibly, by investing in devices that last longer and are easier to repair.

We don’t want existing Fairphone owners to upgrade their devices unnecessarily. We would much rather they invest in device longevity. At the same time, we do want to reach people outside our fold, who are already in the market for a new device, and encourage them to make the fairer, more sustainable choice. Our offers are designed accordingly as well. We have protective bundles for new Fairphone owners to help extend their device’s lifespan even more. We’re also offering discounts on accessories and spare parts, encouraging existing Fairphone owners to keep their current products for longer.

Why is Fairphone running more than one Black Friday promotion?

Our approach to discounts and offers is geared towards promoting the wider adoption of long-lasting tech, and maximizing device longevity as much as possible. We want to encourage more people to choose fair long-lasting tech, that will help them say no to Black Friday for the next five to eight years. We also want to encourage existing Fairphone owners to keep their devices for longer, choosing repair over replace. Hence, we have a few select offers to cater to every kind of customer.
