How to clean your Fairbuds and Fairbuds XL

Keep your Fairbuds and Fairbuds XL sounding clear and working like new with regular care. Here is how to safely wash the removable fabric parts of your headphones and clean your earbuds without damaging the internal electronics.

What you need before you begin

Applies to: Fairbuds XL and Fairbuds

Required materials: Soft lint-free cloths, cotton swabs, a clean soft-bristled toothbrush, mild liquid laundry detergent, and fresh water

Safety guidelines:

  • Use only soft, lint-free cloths or cotton swabs.
  • Avoid submerging electronic parts in liquid. Only removable fabric components can be washed.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, sprays, solvents, or harsh chemicals.

Turn off your audio device and disconnect all cables before starting any cleaning process to protect the internal components.

How to clean your Fairbuds XL ear cushions and headband

  1. Rotate the ear cushions to remove them. For step-by-step video instructions, view our Ear Cushion replacement guide.
  2. Remove the headband cover. For step-by-step video instructions, view our Headband cover, headband, and cable replacement guide.
  3. Place the cushions and headband on a flat surface with the textile side facing up.
  4. Mix 1 tsp (5mL) of liquid laundry detergent into 1 cup (250mL) of water in a clean container.
  5. Dip a soft, lint-free cloth into the soapy water and wring out excess liquid. Gently rub the cloth over the cushions and the main non-removable headband for 1 minute each.
  6. Wipe the cushions and headband with a separate cloth dampened with fresh water to remove detergent residue.
  7. Dry the cushions and headband with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove excess moisture.
  8. Place the cushions and headband on a dry surface and allow them to dry completely before re-attaching them. Full drying can take up to 24 hours.

How to clean your Fairbuds

Use dry cleaning methods for the main earbud body, charging case, and ear tips to protect internal electronics.

  • Main body and charging case: Gently wipe the exterior surfaces of the earbuds and charging case with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Speaker mesh: Clean away debris on the speaker mesh and microphone openings using a clean, soft-bristled toothbrush or a dry cotton swab. Take care not to push debris further inside the mesh openings.
  • Ear tips: Remove the silicone ear tips and wipe them with a cloth dampened with fresh water. Allow the ear tips to dry completely before placing them back on the earbuds.
