Fix a Fairphone that restarts or is caught in a bootloop

  • Updated

If your Fairphone continuously restarts, only boots to recovery mode, or fails to reach the home screen, your device software requires attention.

Symptoms you might experience

  • Your phone is caught in a continuous restart cycle (bootloop).
  • Your phone only starts in recovery mode.
  • Your phone never reaches the home screen.
  • Your phone gets stuck on the Fairphone or Android logo.

This is sometimes referred to as a soft brick for your device.

How to restore your phone software

The most reliable way to fix a startup loop is to perform a factory reset. A factory reset clears the corrupted system files and cached data that prevent the operating system from loading properly.

Did this issue start right after you manually installed an alternative operating system (such as /e/OS)? If so, you can reattempt the operating system installation first before proceeding below.

How to send your phone to our repair center

If your Fairphone still does not reach the home screen after a factory reset, our technicians can reinstall fresh software for you at our repair center. Submit a repair request through our Repair Portal.

If your warranty has expired, or if installing a new OS locked the device, you can check our repair price list for current diagnostic and labor costs.
