How to replace the battery in The Fairphone (Gen. 6)
Replacing the battery in your phone is quick and simple. Follow our video guide or the step-by-step instructions below to safely replace your battery.
What you need before you begin
- Applies to: The Fairphone (Gen. 6)
- Required tools: Torx T5 screwdriver and a small container to keep your screws safe
- Parts: Replacement battery for the Fairphone (Gen. 6)
Removing the back cover
- Power off the phone by long pressing the Power button. Depending on your settings, press the Power button and Volume Up button together to open the power menu.
- Place the phone on a flat surface with the screen facing down.
- Remove the two screws on the top left and top right of the lower back cover.
Outer screws are longer than inner screws. Keep your outer and inner screws separated so reassembly is easy.
- Slide the lower back cover off towards the bottom of the phone.
Removing the battery
- Keep the phone facing screen down on your flat surface.
- With your Torx T5 screwdriver, remove the five screws around the battery.
- Keep all five screws safely inside your container.
- Slowly lift the connector cover on top, disconnect the board-to-board (BTB) connector, and lift out the battery.
Installing your new battery
- Place the new battery into the open space where the old battery was.
- Reconnect the battery board-to-board (BTB) connector.
- Close the connector cover over the BTB connector.
- Re-screw the five short inner screws you removed earlier.
- Slide the lower back cover back onto the phone and re-screw the two long outer screws.
- Press and hold the Power button to turn on your Fairphone.
Dispose of your old battery responsibly at a local electronic waste collection point. Never throw lithium-ion batteries into household waste.
