How to replace the headband base on Fairbuds XL

The headband base connects each speaker unit to the headband frame. If your mounting clips or connection points are damaged, follow these steps to install a replacement headband base.

What you need before you begin

  • A clean, flat work surface and a small container to store loose screws
  • A plastic card or guitar pick for leverage
  • Your replacement headband base spare part from our online shop
  • The correct screwdriver for your model:
    • Fairbuds XL (2023): Phillips #00 screwdriver
    • Fairbuds XL (2025): Phillips #0 screwdriver

Not sure which Fairbuds XL model you have? 

  • Fairbuds XL (2023): Features a speckled finish in light green or black.
  • Fairbuds XL (2025): Features a solid finish without speckles in darker green or black.

How to replace your headband base

  1. Turn off your Fairbuds XL.
  2. Lift off the speaker cover on the affected earcup using your fingers or plastic card.
  3. Locate the two screws securing the speaker unit to the headband base. Carefully unscrew them and place them in your container.
  4. Wiggle the headband base slightly to loosen it, gently pull the speaker unit away, and disconnect the internal USB-C cable from the top of the speaker.
  5. Slide the headband cover upward to reveal the silver locking lever underneath.
  6. Gently lift the silver lever to unlock the headband base, then slide the base out and detach it completely from the headband frame.
  7. Slide your replacement headband base into the headband frame until securely fitted, then push the silver lever back down to lock it.
  8. Plug the internal USB-C audio cable back into the top socket of the speaker unit.
  9. Line up the mounting holes on the new headband base with the speaker unit and tighten the two screws removed earlier.
  10. Snap the speaker cover back on, starting from the top and moving downward until it clicks into place.
