Camera quality and key improvements

The Fairphone (Gen. 6/Gen. 6+) introduces several hardware and software upgrades to help you take clearer photos:

  • Main camera: Features a Sony LYTIA sensor to capture detailed images across different lighting conditions.
  • Ultra-wide camera: Uses an enhanced sensor to capture wide landscapes and group shots with greater clarity.

Understanding the rear camera lenses

You will see three lens openings on the back of the phone, but only two of these openings contain traditional camera lenses.

The main camera and ultra-wide camera sit behind two of the openings.

The third opening houses a Time-of-flight (TOF) sensor. This sensor measures distance and helps the camera system focus accurately.

How to take 50MP full-resolution photos

By default, the camera combines individual pixels (pixel binning) to balance image detail and file size. To disable pixel binning and capture photos using the full 50MP resolution:

  1. Open the Fairphone Camera app on your phone.
  2. Swipe through the mode menu and tap High pixel.
  3. Tap the shutter button to capture your photo.

High-resolution photos create larger files and use more storage space on your device.

Video recording options and limits

The Fairphone (Gen. 6/Gen. 6+) supports rear video recording up to 4K resolution at 30 frames per second (30fps). Due to hardware processing limits, recording in 4K at 60fps is not supported.
