Supported devices and operating systems

The Fairphone Gallery app gives device owners a fast, clutter-free space to view and organize media stored on their phones.

You can install and use the app on the following models:

  • The Fairphone (Gen. 6) and The Fairphone (Gen. 6+)
  • Fairphone 5
  • Fairphone 4

How to install the app

How the app arrives on your device depends on your phone status:

  • New or factory-reset Fairphone (Gen. 6/Gen. 6+): The Fairphone Gallery app downloads automatically in the background during initial setup. Software updates will not trigger an automatic download.
  • Existing Fairphones: The app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

How your privacy and storage are protected

The Fairphone Gallery app operates entirely on your physical device to keep personal memories private and under your control.

  • On-device storage: Photos and videos remain stored directly on your internal storage or microSD card. The app acts strictly as a viewer and does not duplicate files or create background copies, taking up minimal storage space beyond the small footprint of the app itself.
  • Privacy by design: The app operates without requiring an account, collects zero analytics, and never uploads photos, videos, or metadata to external servers or cloud databases.

Using Fairphone Gallery alongside Google Photos

Google Photos comes preinstalled on your phone as the default photo application. Android does not allow changing the system default photo app setting, but you can choose to use both apps together or use only the Fairphone Gallery app.

If you prefer to use the Fairphone Gallery app exclusively, you can disable Google Photos:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Select Photos.
  4. Tap Disable.

How deleting photos works

Because the Fairphone Gallery app functions as a direct window to your phone's storage, deleting a photo or video within the gallery removes the physical file directly from your device storage.
