How to prepare your phone for the Reuse and Recycle Program

Before sending your phone to our Reuse and Recycle Program, you must remove your personal accounts and erase your data. Protecting your privacy ensures your phone can be inspected and your Fairphone gift card processed without delays.

What you need before you begin

• Back-up any photos, contacts, and personal files you wish to keep.
• Remove all SIM cards and memory cards, as any inserted cards are destroyed immediately upon arrival.
• Ensure your phone battery is charged so it does not power off during the reset process.

How to prepare an Android phone

1. Open Settings on your phone.
2. Tap Accounts (or Passkeys & accounts), select your Google account, and tap Remove account.
3. Perform a factory reset to erase all personal data. This step automatically deactivates Find My Device.
4. If you already sent your phone without logging out, visit the Google Account management page to erase your phone or remove your Google account remotely.

How to prepare an iPhone

1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
2. Tap your profile name at the top, then tap Sign Out.
3. Turn off Find My iPhone when prompted.
4. Perform a factory reset to wipe all personal data following Apple's trade-in guide.
5. If you already sent your iPhone without signing out, log in to iCloud online to remove your device remotely.
