What to do if your Fairbuds 2 battery won't charge
If your Fairbuds 2 are not charging or holding a charge, trying a different charger or recalibrating the modular battery usually resolves the issue. Follow these step-by-step instructions to get your device back up and running.
Step 1: Check your charger and cable
Before troubleshooting the internal battery, rule out external charging equipment issues:
- Connect your charging case using a different USB-C cable and wall adapter.
- Verify that your charger outputs a minimum of 5V – 0.5A.
- Charge your charging case for at least 30 minutes to check if the charging indicator LED turns on.
If the charging light does not turn on or your Fairbuds 2 still fail to charge, proceed to recalibrating the battery.
Step 2: Reseat the modular batteries
Because Fairbuds 2 are designed for owners to replace their own spare parts, a loose connection can prevent the battery from receiving power. Cleaning and reseating the battery restores proper contact.
Reseat the earbud batteries
- Remove the earbud silicone ring by holding the earbud stem, locating the notch, and lifting to pull the ring directly over the stem.
- Locate the battery compartment door underneath, which features a tiny access groove.
- Grip the groove with your fingertip and lift open the compartment cover.
- Remove the old battery.
- Wipe the battery contacts with a clean, dry cloth.
- Reseat the battery firmly, making sure the polarity (+/-) matches correctly.
Reseat the charging case battery
- Open the charging case lid, take out both Fairbuds, and set them aside.
- Close the lid, turn the charging case over, and use a T5 Torx screwdriver to turn the bottom screw counterclockwise until removed.
- Open the lid, insert your fingers into the charging case core, and gently pull the outer shell away from the core.
- Flip the case core over to locate the battery on the bottom side.
- Use a fingernail to hook under the tab on the left side of the battery, lift up, and remove the battery from its slot.
- Wipe the battery contacts with a clean, dry cloth.
- Reseat the battery firmly, making sure the polarity (+/-) matches correctly.
After reseating the battery, connect your charging case to your charger to check if it can charge.
Step 3: Calibrate the battery
A full charge and discharge cycle helps recalibrate internal battery measurements:
- Fully discharge your earbuds: Use your Fairbuds 2 continuously (including the charging case) until the battery reaches 0% and the earbuds turn off automatically.
- Recharge to 100%: Place the earbuds into the charging case and charge until the indicator light turns green (approximately two hours).
