Unlock your Fairphone if you forgot your PIN

If you cannot unlock your Fairphone because of a forgotten PIN, this guide helps you identify which PIN is locked and walks you through how to regain access to your phone.

Identify which PIN is locked

Your phone uses two separate PIN codes, which can easily be confused:

  • SIM PIN: Protects your SIM card and mobile network connection. If you forget your SIM PIN, you must request a PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code directly from your network operator.
  • Screen lock PIN: Protects your personal data and unlocks your device display. If you forget this code, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

Remove your SIM card to test your screen PIN

Before resetting your phone, verify whether the prompt is asking for your SIM PIN or your screen PIN:

  1. Turn off your phone.
  2. Remove your SIM card(s).
  3. Turn your phone back on.
  4. Enter your screen unlock PIN.

If your phone unlocks, your screen PIN is correct and you only need a PUK code from your operator for the SIM card. If your phone remains locked, proceed to the reset steps below.

Perform a factory reset

A factory reset deletes all personal data, downloaded apps, and settings from your phone. Any data that is not backed up will be lost permanently.

  1. Perform a factory reset.
  2. Follow the setup prompts on the screen until the phone asks for your previous security code.
  3. Tap Verify your Google account instead and log in with your Google credentials.

If you cannot remember your Google username or password, contact Google directly for account recovery help.

Request a reset from our repair center
