Global network coverage
If you are traveling or living outside Europe and the United States, your Fairphone can connect to local mobile networks. This guide explains international roaming settings, regional network compatibility, and device setup steps.

How to turn on roaming for international travel
- Contact your intended mobile network operator to verify roaming capabilities and confirm their broadcast frequency bands match your phone specifications.
- Open Settings on your smartphone.
- Tap Network & internet > SIMs.
- Tap your active SIM card, then turn on Roaming.
- Restart your phone after arriving at your destination to register on the local cellular network.
Understanding international roaming and global network compatibility
Because cellular frequency bands and carrier standards vary globally, full network compatibility outside Europe and the United States cannot be guaranteed. Contact your local intended network operator to confirm if the operator supports your phone.
Keep in mind:
- 5G and 4G LTE connectivity: Your phone connects to international 4G networks when mobile data and roaming are enabled in settings. If your Fairphone supports 5G, the phone can also connect to most 5G networks.
- VoLTE and VoWiFi features: If a local provider relies on Voice over LTE (VoLTE) or Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) and has not provisioned your specific Fairphone model, you may experience dropped calls or connection delays.
- Regional variations: Only The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) units purchased specifically in the United States are officially supported on US networks due to local network limitations. Check with your local network operator to confirm if the operator supports your model.
