This page provides an overview of confirmed, high, and medium-priority software issues we are currently investigating or working to resolve across our devices.
 


Status explained:

  • Under investigation: We are aware of the issue and actively working to find the root cause and a solution.
  • Fix incoming: A fix has been developed and will be included in the next planned software release for your device.
  • Cause identified: The root cause has been found. Development of the final fix is in progress.
  • Fixed and verified:   The solution has been implemented and is available in the software version mentioned in the issue details. Please update your device.

    Note: Fixed issues are removed from this list approximately eight weeks after the solution is released to keep the overview concise.

Issue Description Workaround Status
Some apps load extremely slowly or enter infinite loading loops. This can occur when fetching online content or during the initial splash screen. Rebooting the device may resolve the issue temporarily, but it might recur after some time.
  • Disable Wi-Fi
  • Reboot or clear the Android System WebView cache and data:
    1. Go to Settings → Apps → See All Apps
    2. Search for Android System WebView
    3. Tap the app, then tap Clear Cache, followed by Clear Storage
    4. Reboot the device

Note: Apps that use WebView to display web content will be signed out and will require you to log in again.

Under investigation
Unexpected Reboots in North America (Version 15.148.0 and above).
If you are located in North America and have recently updated your Fairphone 6 to version 15.148.0 and higher, you may experience your device restarting on its own without warning. This issue specifically affects users on this software version within the North American region.

To reduce the frequency of this issue, please follow these steps on your Fairphone:

  1. Open Settings and go to Location.

  2. Tap Location Services.

  3. Select Location Accuracy and toggle it Off.

Camera pictures missing after capture.
Photos taken with the stock Camera app disappear, particularly when using the double-press power button shortcut from lockscreen and immediately locking the device again.
  • Disable battery optimization for Camera app (Settings → Apps → See all apps → Camera → App battery usage → Set to Unrestricted)
  • Wait a few seconds after taking a photo before locking the device
  • Use alternative camera apps (e.g. Open Camera)

Wrong app opens from app drawer search.

When searching for an app in the app drawer and selecting it very quickly after it appears in results, a different app opens instead of the selected one.

UI animations may stutter or lag for several seconds after the device is unlocked. The issue is temporary, and performance normalizes afterwards
  • Disable Wake screen for notifications (Settings → Display → Lock screen → Wake screen for notifications)
  • Enable Always on Display (Settings → Wallpaper and style → More lock screen options → Always show time and info).
  • Lock and immediately unlock the device.
  • Open and close the Camera app.

Cannot accept Privacy Policy with increased font size during Android’s Setup Wizard.
If the system font size is set to a large value during the initial setup, the button to accept the Privacy Policy may become inaccessible. This can occur if the font size is changed manually or if the setting is transferred from a previous device during data transfer.
1. Use the back button to return to the beginning of the setup wizard.
2. On the "Vision Settings", reduce the font size to the default setting.
3. Proceed with the setup again. The button will now be visible and clickable.
4. Once set up the device, change the setting again to your preferred text size

Unstable Bluetooth connection causing media playback issues.

When playing media from certain apps, the content connects to the device but immediately pauses itself, preventing playback. This can also cause playback in certain applications to stutter or lag while an audio device is connected via Bluetooth.

Fairphone 5

Issue Workaround Status

After upgrading to Android 15, apps may close on their own or completely restart when pushed to the background or when you switch between them.

Because the apps are not staying open in the background, you may experience symptoms such as background music stopping, recent photos not saving, or difficulties completing online payments that require switching back and forth with a banking app.

Device reboots when connected to Android Auto.

 Since the update to Android 15, when connected to Android Auto, the phone may spontaneously reboot or crash, especially when interacting with certain apps.

Camera app writes 0 byte files in DCIM folder

The camera app creates a 0-byte photo file in the DCIM folder after taking a picture. Shortly after, the actual photo appears in the Camera subfolder, resulting in two files each time a picture is taken.

Wallpaper resets by itself.

Custom wallpaper (set for lock screen and launcher background) automatically resets to default.

Device fails to boot after Android 15 update, if fingerprint sensor is damaged

Following the update to Android 15, a device with a malfunctioning or physically damaged fingerprint sensor may be unable to complete the boot process and can get stuck on the loading screen.

"Quickstep has stopped" error appears after Android 15 update.

After updating to Android 15, some users experience frequent crashes of the Quickstep application (the system's home screen launcher). This results in a recurring notification that the app has stopped working.

Fingerprint sensor is unresponsive or not detected.

The fingerprint sensor fails to register any input or is not recognized by the operating system. This is related to a known hardware issue from a specific production batch, which has been resolved in newer units

Fairphone 4

Issue Workaround Status

The device (Fairphone 4) is experiencing spontaneous reboots following the Android 15 update. The phone may restart unexpectedly while idle, during screen wake-up, or while switching between apps, without any user action.

 

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > All Apps.
  2. In the top right corner, select Show System Apps.
  3. Search for the app NXTVision (this is your display driver).
  4. Select the app, then Delete Cache and Delete all Data.
  5. Finally, select Force Close.

"Quickstep has stopped" error appears after Android 15 update.

Some users experience frequent crashes of the Quickstep application. The phone's home screen and app launcher frequently crash after the Android 15 update.

User Experience: a constant notification "Quickstep has stopped"

Temporarily install a third-party launcher:

  1. On your Fairphone, swipe up from the Home screen to see All Apps.
  2. Open Play Store.
  3. Install a third-party launcher of your preference (e.g. Fossify).

Loudspeaker stoped working.

The loudspeaker doesn’t work after the update to Android 15. 
The Videos have no sound.

After the A13 upgrade, bluetooth devices of some brand struggle to connect.

Erratic proximity sensor behavior in bright light.

In direct sunlight/bright light, the screen brightness is adjusted, resulting in the screen being virtually unreadable.

Long-press power button to force reboot only causes power off.

When long-pressing the power button until a black screen appears, the device shuts down instead of rebooting.

Fairbuds XL

The ear cushion upholstery detaches as the glue loses adhesion, causing the fabric to fray over time. - Under investigation

Distorted microphone audio quality.

The microphone produces a metallic, sharp, or hollow sound during calls.

Fairbuds crash when connected to a Garmin smartwatch.

When connecting the Fairbuds to a Garmin Epix Watch, the earbuds occasionally turn off. Sometimes, a power-off tone plays; other times, they shut down abruptly with a crackling noise.

Our investigation has identified this as a compatibility limitation with specific third-party products.
