How to check 5G support and compatibility on your Fairphone
Fairphone 4 and newer models support 5G network connections to give you faster data speeds and improved network responsiveness.
What you need to connect to 5G
To use 5G on your Fairphone, your setup must meet a few basic requirements:
- A compatible Fairphone model: You need a Fairphone 4, Fairphone 5, or The Fairphone (Gen. 6). Older models (Fairphone 3+ and earlier) do not support 5G hardware.
- A 5G mobile operator and plan: Your mobile operator must offer 5G coverage in your area, and your SIM card or eSIM must have 5G enabled on your service plan.
- An active single-SIM 5G connection: If you use Dual SIM, only one SIM card can connect to 5G at a time.

Understanding 5G Standalone (SA) support
5G Standalone (SA) is an advanced network mode that operates entirely on a 5G core network without relying on 4G infrastructure. Fairphone 5 and newer models can connect to 5G SA on select operator networks:
- The Fairphone (Gen. 6): SFR (France)
- Fairphone 5: Vodafone (Germany)
We continuously explore partnerships with new network operators to expand 5G SA availability. However, we cannot share specific details or timelines for future operator support at this time.
Understanding mmWave compatibility
Fairphone smartphones do not support mmWave 5G.
Connecting to mmWave high-frequency bands requires specialized internal hardware components. Because of these hardware requirements, mmWave support cannot be added or enabled through future software updates.
