What is the software for The Fairphone (Gen. 6)?

The Fairphone (Gen. 6) launched with Android 15. It is now possible to update The Fairphone (Gen. 6) to Android 16, as of 16 March 2026.

What is the software support roadmap for The Fairphone (Gen. 6)?

Packing a powerful Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, the Fairphone guarantees smooth, reliable performance for years to come. With eight years of software support (until 2033) and a five-year warranty, you know it is built to last. This means we commit to going beyond the legislative requirement of providing software support for over 5 years after the last phone is produced. We are the only smartphone in our category to offer this number of Android upgrades, allowing you to keep your phone secure and up-to-date for as long as possible.

We will provide monthly security updates for about 3 years, and then we'll switch to bi-monthly updates from June 2028 until the end of software support.

What is the software support roadmap for Fairphone 5?

Thanks to the unique Qualcomm® QCM6490 extended life chipset, we can provide support for longer than ever. For Fairphone 5, we are planning:

• 5 Android version upgrades.
• At least 8 (we'll try 10!) years of security updates.
• Monthly security updates for about 3 years, and then we will switch to bi-monthly security updates* from mid-2026 until the end of the software support.

What is the software for Fairphone 4?

The Fairphone 4 started shipping with Android 11.

To take advantage of the latest improvements and security fixes, make sure to update your Fairphone to the latest software release.

What is the software support roadmap for Fairphone 4?

We aim to support the Fairphone 4 with security and software upgrades for five years from its launch date (September 2021), trying to reach 7 years. For Fairphone 4, we guarantee software support until at least 2026 and may extend that to 2028.

We did monthly security updates for about 2,5 years, and then we switched to bi-monthly security updates* since 2024. Furthermore, we will keep the bi-monthly pace until the end of the software support.

What is the software for Fairphone 3(+)?

The Fairphone 3 (2019) launched with Android 9, while the Fairphone 3+ (2020) launched with Android 10. 

Android 13 is the final major operating system upgrade for both models. We will provide the last security patch in June 2026.

What is the software support roadmap for Fairphone 3(+)?

Official support for the Fairphone 3(+) will end in August 2026. Because the final security patches expire in June 2026, this device will be vulnerable to security threats.

What is the software for Fairphone 2?

The Fairphone 2 started shipping with Android 5 and it's currently running Android 10.

What is the software support roadmap for Fairphone 2?

Official support for the Fairphone 2 ended in March 2023. Because the final security patches expired in May 2023, this device is now significantly outdated and vulnerable to security threats.

• Security Risk: The phone no longer receives official security updates. Using this device online poses a high risk to your personal data.

• App Compatibility: Many modern apps have already stopped functioning or may provide an unstable experience due to the outdated Android version.

• Usage Recommendation: We strongly advise against using the Fairphone 2 for banking, sensitive communications, or any tasks requiring a connection to the Internet.

Alternative Software Options

If you wish to keep using your hardware safely, some third-party custom ROMs may still provide community-driven security patches. We recommend exploring:
