How long is the warranty for a refurbished Fairphone?
This information is found on our Warranty page:
- The Fairphone (Gen. 6) Refurbished will have the same warranty as The Fairphone (Gen. 6).
- Fairphone 5 Refurbished bought before 31 December 2025 benefit from a 5 year warranty. Fairphone 5 Refurbished bought from 1 January 2026 benefit from a 3 year warranty.
- Fairphone 4 Refurbished bought before 31 December 2023 benefit from a 5 year warranty. Fairphone 4 Refurbished bought from 1 January 2024 benefit from a 3 year warranty.
- Fairphone 3 Refurbished benefit from a 2 year warranty.
Will the hardware be in good condition in a refurbished Fairphone?
Yes. Refurbished devices are professionally tested, restored, and cleaned. While they may show light signs of previous use, they remain 100% functional and operational with minor wear and tear.
Will my refurbished Fairphone come scratched or visually damaged?
Refurbished Fairphones undergo rigorous testing and quality checks. The display is replaced if there are more than two scratches. Mid frames and back covers also get replaced if they have deep, visible scratches. While the device may show light signs of previous use, it is fully functional with minor wear and tear.
Is the software safe and up to date for a new user?
Yes. All refurbished models are completely wiped software-wise, and updated to the latest Android version available, providing you with a clean, secure start, just like a new device.
How will my refurbished Fairphone be packaged?
To keep our environmental footprint as low as possible, your refurbished device will arrive in plastic-free, eco-friendly and fully recyclable packaging. We often make use of existing, possibly used, packaging materials to avoid unnecessary printing and waste, so your box will feature a label marking it as refurbished edition, and a dedicated flyer inside.
Can I choose what colour my refurbished Fairphone will be?
Yes, of course! Any colours that are in stock will be available.
If my refurbished Fairphone already has cosmetic damage, could I be blamed for wear and tear in the future and void my warranty?
Cosmetic damages of the refurbished Fairphone devices bought from our webshop, such as scratches, will not void the warranty. We have clearly defined aesthetic and visual requirements for the phones we allow to be sold as refurbished and this is considered in any warranty claim.
Is a refurbished Fairphone still water and dust resistant?
Refurbished Fairphones are carefully reassembled and thoroughly tested by our professionals. However, because these devices have been opened for rigorous inspection and part replacement, the original factory IP rating for water and dust resistance cannot be 100% guaranteed. We recommend keeping your refurbished device safe from heavy rain or submersion.
Can I still repair a refurbished Fairphone myself?
Yes! Modularity is at the heart of Fairphone. Refurbished models use the exact same standard spare parts as new ones. Whether you need a new battery a few years down the line or accidentally crack your screen, you can still easily order parts and repair the device yourself with just a standard Torx screwdriver.
Will my refurbished Fairphone come with a new battery?
The battery is guaranteed to have over 80% capacity. The battery will have the same warranty as for the battery of new devices: 38 months (24 months + 14 months extension).
Can I purchase a refurbished Fairphone with /e/ OS?
All refurbished Fairphones come with Android OS. If you prefer to use /e/ OS, you can change the software yourself.
Where can I buy a refurbished Fairphone?
Refurbished Fairphones are sold exclusively on our webshop when they are available.
Does the referral program work with a refurbished Fairphone?
Yes! The Keep Club Referral program is applicable to all phones sold on our webshop.
Can I use the Fairphone Reuse and Recycle Program to buy a refurbished model?
Yes! Our Reuse and Recycle Program applies to refurbished purchases as well. You can check the value of your old smartphone and obtain its value in the form of a gift card, which you can then apply toward the purchase of your refurbished Fairphone on our webshop.
What if I sell my refurbished Fairphone to someone else?
Yes - then you make someone happy to receive a nice phone with a long life! Make sure to forward your Fairphone proof of purchase to this person, so they can benefit from the remaining warranty if needed.
What happens if I think my refurbished Fairphone is not in good condition?
If you are not satisfied with your product, the 14 days return period applies.
